One day, you might discover that all your data and browsing history running naked on the streets of Western Europe. This means your login passwords, private personal information, cell phone, social security numbers have been stolen. This not only worries John Q. Public internet users, but it is also a big fear for web and app developers.
This happens because apps are not using secure HTTPS links. HTTPS is the upgraded and secured version of HTTP, and it is being adopted more and more in the technology world.
TCP/IP agreement under HTTPS structure
As shown in the chart above, HTTP is in the application layer, and it can add SSL/TLS protection. So if SSL/TLS is not used, HTTP will deliver everything in transparently with no encryption so users information and browsing histories will be stolen in time.
But with HTTPS these problems can be reduced and will increase the security of your web browsing. In recent years, Apple and Google have been pushing to a global adoption of HTTPS. Apple already requires all applications under App Store to run under HTTPS. Google search and ranking are also using HTTPS. According to a report by the EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation), more than half of the websites in the world are using secure HTTPS protocol. Facebook, Twitter and Wikipedia have all adopted HTTPS. Just like CDN, HTTPS is now a website's must infrastructure.
CDN providers are now also supporting HTTPS and building HTTPS infrastructure. HTTP Secure (HTTPS) is an extension of the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) for secure communication over a computer network, and is widely used on the internet. In HTTPS, the communication protocol is encrypted using Transport Layer Security(TLS), or formerly, its predecessor, Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). The protocol is therefore also often referred to as HTTP over TLS or HTTP over SSL.
